# Share a Draft for Notes

Send the draft. Get the notes back.

Share a draft from your Mac with a private link for each reader. They read it in any browser — no account, no app — and leave notes right on the page. Every note comes back to you, next to the line it's about.

## One link per reader (on your Mac)

Choose **File ▸ Share Draft…** (⌥⇧⌘S), or click the paper plane at the top of the window. Your link is ready in seconds.

1. **Name the reader.** Each person gets their own link, and their name goes on their notes.
2. **Keep the passphrase, or turn it off.** Inkwell suggests an easy one, like *maple-orbit-tuesday*. Send it separately from the link.
3. **Pick how long it lasts** — 7, 30, or 90 days.
4. **Decide who sees the notes** — just you, or everyone you've shared this draft with.

## Opens anywhere, reads like a script (for your reader)

Your reader taps the link and starts reading — on a laptop, a tablet, or the phone in their pocket. On a bigger screen, pages land exactly where your PDF puts them. On a phone, Reading view flows the script into one comfortable column, with quiet page markers so "page 47" still means page 47. One tap switches between the two.

- **Their way.** Four text sizes, and light or dark — or follow the device.
- **Easy to get around.** Jump to any scene, and pick up on the page they left off.
- **Nothing hidden.** The cover tells them you'll see when they open it, how far they read, and their notes.
- **Discreet.** Their browser tab says "Draft from" and your first name — your title stays out of their history and out of link previews.

## Notes on the line, not in an email

No more "p. 47, third line down." Your reader taps any line and types. The note attaches to the whole speech, scene heading, or paragraph of action. The note sits right beside it, and your replies show up on their page, under the note they answer.

## Every note, right where it belongs (back in Inkwell)

Open **View ▸ Reader Notes** (⌥⌘N) and each note appears beside the passage it was left on — even after you've rewritten the pages around it. Reply, resolve, or delete. Notes live alongside your script, never inside it: your file and its history stay exactly as you wrote them.

And you'll know who's read it. Each link shows when your reader opened it, how far they got, whether they finished, and how many notes they left.

## Private by design: whoever you share it with can read it. We can't.

The draft and every note are encrypted on your Mac before they're uploaded. The key rides in the part of the link that browsers never send to a server, so what we store is a copy we have no way to open. The reader page loads nothing from anyone but us — no ad trackers, no outside scripts. What we can see is the reader name you type (so we can put it on their notes) and the read receipts — never the words.

## The fine print

- **Free with an Inkwell account.** Sharing needs you signed in on your Mac, nothing more — you don't have to turn on sync. A free account keeps up to 3 links live at a time; Quill Pro raises that to 50. Revoke a link and its slot frees up.
- **Links that end on their own.** Every link expires after 7, 30, or 90 days — 30 unless you choose otherwise. Need longer? Extend it from your Mac. Done early? Revoke it, and your reader sees that the draft is no longer shared.
- **A frozen copy, on purpose.** Readers see the draft exactly as it was when you shared it. Keep writing — their copy doesn't change. When you want them on the new pages, Reshare makes a fresh link for the same reader.
- **Just the pages.** Your private notes, revision marks, and any Quill suggestions you haven't accepted stay on your Mac. Readers get the script as it would print.
- **Cleaned up after.** Two weeks after a draft's last link expires or is revoked, we delete the encrypted copy. Notes stay 90 days longer, so late ones still reach you — then they're deleted too.
- **Honest limits.** A link works for whoever has it, so a forwarded link opens — with your original reader's name on any notes. Revoking stops future visits but can't un-read pages someone already opened. A passphrase keeps the link alone from being enough.
